The Pentagon has requested a startling $17.2 billion in research and development for science and technology projects. This is a remarkable sum. 17.2 billion is nearly four times the previous budget line items associated with AI, integrated sensing, and cyber. It reflects DoD’s increased focus and attention on these nonlethal priorities. DoD has launched a significant pilot program to identify AI vulnerabilities following the publication of President Biden’s Executive Order articulating the requirement for safe and responsible use in development of artificial intelligence.
